This booklet includes up to date information about HIV and the ageing process that is relevant to the lives and health of people living with and growing older with HIV - so they can prepare and plan for their future health needs. At Home - Away
The travel campaign, which consisted of two posters and two booklets, targeted both gay men travelling overseas and gay men travelling from regional/rural areas to larger Australian cities. The campaign was developed from AFAO's travel research project. The posters aimed to to reinforce existing safe sex messages and assist men to develop and maintain a range of safe sex strategies when they are travelling away from home. A passport size booklet for HIV positive gay men aimed to assist them to maintain adherence to their treatments while travelling overseas. The booklet and posters are now out of print but updated content is still available on this website. Published July 2001, Updated January 2010

Proud to be Black, Proud to be Gay is a series of three posters that portray Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gay men in a fun, strong, and confident light; representing positive role models for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gay community. The main message in this poster series identifies these men as bearers of an important message; encouraging each other to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS and STIs, to wear condoms, to talk to each other about these issues and by doing so, they are also educating their own people and communities.
The ‘Black, Gay & Proud’ posters are available in various sizes from your local AIDS Council or PLHIV organisation.

Stop the Drama Downunder! A sexual health guide for gay men (PDF 756 KB)
This pocket-sized booklet contains information on each STI, including transmission, symptoms, testing and treatment, and things to consider if HIV-positive. It also contains other information on topics such as regular testing and what’s involved in a sexual health check, letting previous partners know, how to reduce the risk, and HIV and STI interactions. HIV Balance (PDF 603KB)
A healthy lifestyle has been shown to significantly reduce the risks of developing cardiovascular, diabetes and osteoarthritis problems and can also enhance the benefits of the ARVs and increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).This campaign features the stories of six PLWHA, in which they explore how they manage the balance between healthy living and HIV management.

It is organised by type of side-effect rather than by specific HIV drug (or drug class), and covers effects such as diarrhoea, headache, peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, anaemia, night sweats, skin problems, blood sugar changes, cholesterol, and liver and kidney problems. Trick or treat: Antiretroviral Therapy as HIV Prevention (PDF 71pp)There has been widespread debate about the role of ARV therapy in preventing HIV transmission since the publication of the ‘Swiss statement’ in January 2008. This discussion has intensified in the last two years with the publication of various epidemiological models that examine the potential impact of early and extensive ARV therapy—in relation to other proven interventions—on HIV transmission at a population level. Although the debate is far from over, the AFAO-NAPWA Education Team invited a group of authors from the Australian HIV sector to consider the issue of ARV therapy as prevention with a particular focus on recent debates and their application to the Australian context, as well as wider implications. The Mapping Report identifies and documents the full range of programs and activities directed towards gay and other homosexually active men in Australia during 2005 and 2006. In a context of rising HIV infections among gay men, the report will assist in measuring any changes in funding or activity in HIV prevention programs. Published August 2007.
National Action Plan: Rises in HIV infections (PDF 29 KB, 4pp) This Action Plan is focused on those contexts in which risk of HIV transmission or acquisition is considered highest.Therefore the aim of the Action Plan is to reduce new HIV infections among gay and other homosexually active men. The plan provides the framework for developing a coordinated national response to the increase in HIV notifications. Published April 2005.

Yarns website - An interactive website containing HIV/AIDS information and audio-based stories about the real-life experiences of Young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander gay men and Sistergirls. This resource addresses a range of issues, including feelings of social isolation experienced by many members of the target group. It provides detailed accounts of the personal struggles faced by members of this population, as well as the individual strategies in overcoming these challenges. As a result these stories will provide the listener with an opportunity to consider healthy options around sexual negotiation, seeking HIV testing as well as other services and coming out experiences (for example). The website will incorporate a user-generated component, which will allow an individual to upload a their own story onto the website in various audio-visual formats.
